THE CARRIAGE HOUSE ALTERNATIVE CLASSROOM

The Carriage House alternative classroom provides current and past shelter residents with the opportunity to continue or complete their high school education in a non-traditional setting. Established in partnership with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, The Carriage House is an extension classroom of Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School. Coursework is supervised by PCVS teacher Simon Weigh, with assistance from Y.E.S. employee Karen Scott and other staff and volunteers.

Carriage House students can complete any Ontario Ministry of Education mandated core course and a number of options, including art, music, construction, and healthy living, moving them towards high school matriculation. Several individuals have completed their high school requirements at The Carriage House and have crossed the stage with other students at PCVS graduation ceremonies.
